my mac mini is from the end of 2014 and I'm running Catalina. earlier this evening I was listening to some music using the vlc media player. I started to notice a hissing sound or white noise. at first I thought it was part of the music but I paused it and the sound continued. It wasn't coming out of the headphones only the speakers. the music was starting to flicker or sound garbled. I quit vlc and went into the menu to turn the computer off. Safari and email were both closed. my mac was responding very slowly and everything kept being busy. When I finally got to "shut down" it said it was going to in 43 secs or something like that but it didn't. I ended up having to push the button. Any ideas as to what was going on? I haven't turned it back on yet. I'm kind of afraid to.
