Hi, I definitely think the fact that an agency is willing to get you a Mac is a step forward to considering non-based Windows solutions. Of course, there is also the issue of passing on the knowledge. Not everyone is even aware of accessibility beyond Windows, and that includes agencies. Then, you have those agencies that are perfectly aware of the accessibility on a Macintosh, but are not willing to fund it, claiming that Windows computers are more "affordable". Or they do not possess the knowledge to evaluate the product properly, simply passing it off as another case of Windows' "Narrator"..
This is clearly due to not considering the money that they will have to dish out to cover accessibility as it progresses on the internet, in necessary educational applications, and so-forth. Of course, I'm talking Software Maintenance Agreements. if you really take just a minute to look at prices, however, applying a Windows-based solution is, in the end, much more expensive, As the assistive technology requires updates to enable you to function as an average student. This is because technology, whether we like it or not, always moves on. And that assistive software has to support it, or it becomes unusable. A time comes when you have to update to a version of the software in question which requires an SMA upgrade. That technology simply has to move right along with everything else. And, again, there is the issue of unwillingness from the agency to pay the money, again because it looks like a Mac will be more expensive. But it's far from it. Or any other equipment, for that matter, so they do not see the reason to replace it. Due to a severe case of lack of funding from my own agency currently, I'm more inclined to believe that it comes down to the money, and nothing else. This is a crazy debate, and all points can certainly be argued, twisted and turned around completely. I guess I'll let everyone else take the floor. I realize, also, that I have properly said this one time or another. Be cool. *bows* Regards, Nic Skype: Kvalme MSN Messenger: nico...@home3.gvdnet.dk AIM: cincinster yahoo Messenger: cin368 Facebook Profile My Twitter On Mar 23, 2010, at 10:40 PM, Scott Howell wrote: > Yeah, exactly and maybe he forgot which list he was on. :) I am thinking that > the current state of the economy has also driven agencies to consider the Mac > more so than they have in the past. > On Mar 23, 2010, at 5:08 PM, Nicolai Svendsen wrote: > >> Hi, >> >> Um, this is Macvisionaries...? >> >> I'm like, confused. >> >> Regards, >> Nic >> Skype: Kvalme >> MSN Messenger: nico...@home3.gvdnet.dk >> AIM: cincinster >> yahoo Messenger: cin368 >> Facebook Profile >> My Twitter >> >> On Mar 23, 2010, at 10:01 PM, Josh wrote: >> >>> Hi >>> >>> got this off another list.
