Which seems to underscore why as Janina pointed out Uber must establish a baseline level of customer expectation for their service. something included in the request process that, if driver ignores, clearly indicates the driver is at fault here. Speaking personally, as someone's whose first experience of rape was at the hands of a cab driver, there is no way on earth I am using a service without such a baseline. Ubber has a bit of a reputation for assaults in general, and if they are not taking professional responsibility for this issue after being informed, something must be done to require that responsibility be taken.

There is no ???best??? way to deal with this issue.
That said, using the Uber app is always the better option.
Messaging the driver is hit or miss because many drivers never look for
messages, and some put the minimum effort into customer service or just don???t
get it. I???ve had drivers tell me it wasn???t their job to look for me, and
refuse to do so. I have been told it was my responsibility to find them.
When this happens, I always report the incident to Uber, which often results in
a lot of back-and-forth communications via email or messaging, trying to
explain the situation to a representative who is many time-zones away in some
far away location.
It can be very frustrating.

Mike,

I always let them know when the ride is booked via messaging. That being said I
use the native app, never used the one for BlindSquare. Does that affiliation
allow you to message drivers?

I keep my messages very simple. I am blind and use a white cane.
Or
Look for man with white cane.

Hope this helps.

Subject: Apprising Uber drivers of blindness in advance of pick-up

Hi.

I use Uber quite frequently, mostly through the BlindSquare app. Since I live
in a metropolitan area, there are frequently instances where lots of cars go
by, and the driver, not knowing that I can???t see him/her, just sits there,
waiting for a passenger to get in to the car.

Is there a way, or perhaps a template that, as soon as my ride has been
confirmed, to tell the driver that I can be recognized by my white cane?
Calling the driver as soon as the ride is confirmed doesn???t work, since some
of them speak neither German nor English.

I am wondering if others have this problem and if so, how they address the
issue. Would I be better off using the native Uber app instead of BlindSquare?

With best regards,

Mike
