Hi. Yes, you need a hardware device to run pro tools. You can also buy pro
tools m powered, which will work with certain m audio interfaces including
the project mix control surface/interface.

All the packages I'll list include pro tools as well as various plug ins
etc. for pro tools le setups, the most basic is the m box 2 mini, which is
a uSB interface. that package usually sells for approx $295. Next, you've
got the m box 2, $449, which is USB, then the m box pro, $699, which is
firewire. All the interfaces from there on out are firewire. You've got
the 003r which is a 2u rack interface, starting at around $1199, then the
003 which is an interface and control surface with motorized faders, that
starts at a bit over $2k. the factory and factory complete bundles of those
interfaces have more plug ins... there is also the command 8, which is just
a dedicated control surface...

moving up from there, you've got the control 24, which is around $25k... and
tdm systems, unlike le systems, require PCI cards which handle dsp
processing and audio i/o...

I hope that gives you a bit of an idea.

Cameron.

Hi Slau and others on the list,
Isn't pro tools very expensive, and does it need any special equipment, such
as sound cards, control surfaces etc?

That's the next version scheduled for release this Spring.

would to remaster a song. I'm hoping to get myself into a professional audio
course in college here in Maine and if anyone has any help/suggestions
please let me know.

As it stands right now, it's not accessible, the journalist edition looks
like i remember Audacity, many unknowns. The developer is aware of this and
is working on the a11y both of the app and the Journalist for the Mac.
