I cannot buy a new phone until I know that I can use the phone i. e. that a voice exists that will be safe for my use. Apple support assisted me and the person here at the time, using this phone, to create an apple id and log in successfully, or walked them through it.
Apple accessability, in the same session, suggested downloading siri.
If the 5 series was no longer supported, why would they assist me otherwise? During this test we discovered that Daniel as it existed makes me dizzy. Which is why I asked if the voice had been upgraded, its last upgrade, in more current editions of IOs.

The 5 ie no longer supported, no iOS updates. Your only option is to buy a newer phone. Or try either the compact or enhanced version of Daniel. As to Siri, I dunno, that depends on the iOS version which is probably 9, current version is 13, so quite outdated.

Nuance is no help, the voices are integrated into iOS. And I doubt Infovox, which sells voices, still supports such an old OS.

Will ask the siri one first..can it be removed once installed?
The voiceover voice  question has to do with sound quality.
I finally found a discussion thread about this with others noting the same
thing.  Daniel who I believe is the UK English voice  changed in its
enhanced form a while back.  I do not know if it has been  improved, or
better still  when was the last  upgrade to  the Daniel voice?
I have an iPhone in the 5 family.  it is possible    that  upgrading
IOS itself, or the voice, if I can, will improve things.
for now though  the quality  clarity and pronunciation is rather
 dreadful.
I did not want siri, but apple accessibility, who was talking with the
person  helping me use the phone suggested the download because
voiceover  itself was not working well according to them.
Siri, which was male in this case, sounded worse than the Daniel voice
 itself.
I believe? Nuance makes the apple voices.  Is there any way to reach them
 directly?
last of all, I understand there are other  options for voices,  with my
wondering about direct contacts too, as I will have to walk someone else
 through  reaching them.
My situation is that since most software generated speech is in a
frequency range that stimulates my brain's dizzy centres, experimenting
can make me rather sick.  That is what happened when trying to resolve
the Daniel / male siri  situation.
meaning I really want to plan ahead before testing anything further.
 ideas?
