Hi, If you wanting a clean install, then you'll need to do the erase of the drive first. This will wipe the drive clean, then you'll be installing a fresh new copy of the MacOS. If you install first, then you're not performing a clean install, you're actually performing an upgrade install. Of course, make sure that everything is backed up prior to either.
