Easier? Maybe? I have used the app many times and it has never
failed. Matter of fact I retrieved the latest package from the app store
when 10.15.2 was released and I just created a new USB installer with it
using the app. And it shows up in startup. So I do not think the
terminal would fare any better.

Hi greg,
If the USb flash drive doesn't have a bootable package on it
Then no you wont see it in start up disks as there is nothing on the USB device
to start up from.
If you have the bootable Catalina installer the full package then it would be
easier by far to create the installation media from the terminal command line.

Subject: Re: Problems trying to create bootable USB Drive
Hello,
Well I downloaded install disk creator and it does have a much better interface
than disk maker X. When I used it, it appeared to have worked. However when I
go into system preferences/startup disk the flash drive is not listed. No
matter what I do I cannot get this to work. I have a new flash drive on order
from amazon that comes tomorrow. Both of the ones I have are older ones. They
are USB 2.0 and 16GB. The new one is USB 3.1 and is 32GB. Anything else I can
try while waiting on the new flash drive? Also if I do a restart and hold
option down is there a way for me to tell if it did use the USB drive to boot?
Thanks,

I would suggest this app, Install Disk Creator insteaa of DiskMaker X. I had
trouble with that one so threw it out. Also, you need at least a 16gig stick.

Hello all,
I have been trying for the last several days to create a bootable USB drive so
I can do a clean install on my mac. I am using a 2015 MacBook air that I bought
in 2016. It is running the latest version of Catalina. I am using a program
called Disk Maker X to create the USB drive. I have used two different flash
drives I own. After completing the process, neither flash drives are recognized
as start up disks. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Anyone have any advice
on what I can try so I can get a bootable USB drive?
Thanks,
