Petrus, You need to enable this feature on your iPhone in settings / Messages where you tick the box to allow your iPhone and mac to send and receive sms message to non-iPhone users. There may be a need to enter a code on your mac to tether the two devices so keep your Messages app on the mac open and wait for the prompt. I can’t quite remember now the exact chain of events as I had done it a long time ago.
