Hmph. That sucks. I hate it when things are not super easy to fix. So, if you use the VO keys, then that tells me that there's nothing wrong with your Option key.
Try this: 1. Go to the Finder. 2. From the Go menu, choose the Utilities folder. 3. In the Utilities folder, open the Terminal app. 4. In Terminal, interact with the Shell script area, then type the following command followed by the return key: nvram -c 5. Quit Terminal, close any windows and restart your Mac. Try things in text fields now. Let me know how it goes. Later...
