Hi, The error may have popped up, but the initial partitioning process must have began and that's why you don't have that space available. No, doing this in Terminal will not allow you to remove the Recovery Partition. the only time you'd have the ability to do that would be when you start up from a different MacOS such as a USB stick or external USB drive.
