Hi,
When my phone is unlocked and I tap my watch, it will switch to my watch,
and I can faintly hear what it says. Sometimes, it is as though they are
fighting to see which one is ignored, and I hear nothing. Unless the watch
has priority, I don't know how the Airpods can know what you want to hear.
I still love them and don't at all regret buying the ones I have.
Take care,
Lois

Hi. I recently got an email from an Apple advisor who talked to an engineer
about that problem. The engineer told him that when voiceover is active on
both devices, the phone takes priority over the watch. I do not like that
intention, but unfortunately that’s how the behavior is supposed to be. They
have put it as a feature request, to see if they could possibly fix it in
the future version of iOS. Or watchOS.

Wish they'd release them in NZ

Thanks, everyone. I also have an iPhone 7 and Series 2 Watch, so it's not
like different hardware would make things work better. I was considering
the AirPods, since I do a lot of walking and workouts. Having my book on
my phone, but then having my Watch use the same headphones so I can hear
workout details or other information would be incredibly useful. I guess
I'll keep waiting, which isn't a bad thing, really; I'm hoping for more
physical control options, so maybe the second generation will improve on
that and work better for me.

Hi,
for me it works somehow but not as expected. If I hear an audiobook on my
iPhone and want to look what time it is, the watch sound comes across but
I can only hear parts of the numbers of the watch. And then it regularly
happens the audio router gets so confused that VoiceOver completely
looses the voice or seems to switch randomely between the watch and the
iPhone 7. So I’d rather see this feature disabled then not working
correctly. Frankly said it’s annoying as it is at the moment.

Hi Alex,
Unfortunately, this is still not working the way it’s intended. If you
have your phone playing audio, and the watch makes it sound, the AirPods
still do not switch to that device. I reported this to Apple, yet they
have no clue why it’s behaving like this. They also said I’m the first
person to report that issue. Who knows when or if it will ever get
fixed.

Hi all, but especially AirPods users, Some time ago there was a
discussion on the list about audio switching with AirPods. If you had
them connected to a phone and a watch, for instance, they would play
audio from the phone but would switch to playing watch audio when the
watch made a sound. If my understanding is right, this is working in
iOS 11 and watchOS 4. If I have all this right, I have some questions.
If not, can someone explain what does happen with these three devices?
Thanks.
* When the watch plays a notification or other small sound, does it go
through the AirPods, or is it only VO speech and music that does? If
the former, doesn't it get annoying to have VO or media interrupted for
a sound, given that the watch is supposed to help your devices be less
interrupting?
* Does this work on other devices? Would it work on Apple TV or a Mac?
* Is there a way to turn the feature off?
Thanks for any responses. The more I think about it, this kind of
switching would be quite convenient in a lot of situations. I just
worry about notification sounds interrupting my iPhone's audio.
