Hi The current version of HandBrake will do this: http://www.handbrake.fr/ Note though that avi is a dying format, and version 0.9.3 is the last version of HandBrake that will support it. There's also some command- line tools to do this such as mencoder, so if you feel comfortable use mencoder which is likely to have avi support for eternity simply because there is nothing mplayer/mencoder can't read or create.
