Hi Jeff,

How much RAM in your 2012 machine?  I have a 2011 MBP with a home-made Fusion 
drive and 16 GB of RAM and do not experience the issues you're mentioning.  I 
have upgraded a few of the 2012 models for colleagues and increased memory 
along with the SSD has made considerable differences in performance.
