Subject: Mac won't boot from anything but cd and dvd

Hey all,

For some odd reason, my friend Michelle's MacBook Pro, Which is from mid 2009,
Will not boot anything unless it is from a CD/DVD.

I have tried redoing the USB thumb drive/ SD card, both with terminal using the
MacWorld article, And the disc maker ex six release candidate version that is
made for Mack OS Sierra.

Could the hard drive be totally gone? It won't install Mac from the DVD, But
funnily enough, it will install Linux…

I am not sure what is going on with it, but I do not know what to do at this
point. I have tried helping her in any way, shape or form. We did redo the SD
card and USB drive for two days straight. So any ideas would be very
appreciated, thank you very much

Sincerely,

A very confused and baffled Portia, lol.

PS. Sorry for the mention of linux, just... <Sighs>. Very confused and baffled
here.
