Hi:
Should I upgrade the Ram as well? I didn’t think about that.

Hi

When it comes to SSD I prefer to go to the Samsung ssd drives
They tend to show more reliability performance.

I’ll use crucial ram as that is what apple use in their machines or at least it
was.

A big +1 to Crucial. I use their SSD drives and memory as well. You can
browse to their site and use the system configurator to match the right
hardware to the drives you want to upgrade. They also show you what tools
you’ll need and provide them at a very reasonable cost.

Big fan of Crucial and Mikron.

hi,

Most SSD's should work. I like the Crucial ones myself, but there's lots out
there that will do the job. You'll need to take into account the size of your
current HD and decide if you want the same size, smaller or bigger. It all
depends on your usage. It will likely be a matter of cost for you, but the 512
GB ones would likely do the job. On my machine, I took out the optical drive,
installed my 7200 RPM 750 GB drive into that location and installed the SSD
into where the HD normally resides. With this configuration, I only needed to
purchase a 256 GB SSD as I created a Fusion array between the old HD and new
SSD, giving me a 1 TB Fusion Drive Lots of storage and very quick.

So Sierra shouldn’t affect voiceover on such an old unit?
I’m going to have to buy the SSD and battery on my own. How do I pick which SSD
to purchase? If I can get more years out of this Mac then I’ll be happy. When
finances change, then I’ll upgrade.

Hi,

The SSD will actually make a huge difference. Since you already have 8 GB RAM,
that's a good thing as well. I've put SSD's into quite a number of 2012 MBP's
lately and the users have noticed huge improvements. With respect to
installing Sierra on that machine, it's kind of your call. It will add some
features, but some new features require newer hardware. It certainly shouldn't
hurt your machine or slow it down that much with the installation of the SSD
and with 8 GB of RAM on board.

Hi guys:
I found an authorized service center that will replace my MBP battery, but I
have to order it from the Internet. I’m also thinking about letting them
replace my 7200 rpm 500 HD with an SSD. My question is is it worth the hard
drive upgrade? Will my MBP work faster? It has 8GB RAM right now with cor i7
processor. Also, is it worth having him install the latest Os, Sierra on a
machine this old? I don’t want to sync a lot of money in to this machine, but I
really cannot afoard to buy a new one.
Battery will cost $99 $25 to put it in. He said it would cost $150 alltogetehr
to put in SD. OF course, this doesn’t cost the price of the SSD.
