Larry,Made a bit of progress. Checking the cable, I realized I had a USB extender cable in there so took it out. As soon as I selected it in prefs, the embosser started spitting out paper. Once it stopped, the embosser went into error mode. But if I left it alone, I could add the embosser.
I redid USB connections so I could connect this directly to the Mac and not into a hub. Same issue.
I may connect to the Windows laptop and verify the embosser is still working properly.

The details are fuzzy now and I’m a relative Mac newcomer so the procedures aren’t burned in yet, but if I recall correctly, I made sure it was turned on and plugged it in. I think I had to go to Printers and Scanners and add it. It found it and identified it as a generic postscript printer. That concerned me a little since Postscript has nothing to do with it, but I accepted this designation. Associating it with DBT is somewhat tricky in that as you set it up there’s an option to print to file that you don’t want, but if you don’t put in a file name anyway then switch back away to the option you actually want it doesn’t work. I typed in “null.” They might have fixed that now because that was in an earlier release. Also be aware that from the emboss panel it doesn’t work unless you navigate to the Ok button with VO and activate it. Just pressing enter when everything is the way you want makes the dialog disappear but nothing happens. I think this too is being fixed in the next version. If you find and submit issues they are quick to acknowledge and work with you to find the root cause. On Sep 8, 2016, at 9:22 AM, E.T. <ancient.ali...@icloud.com> wrote: Larry, Installed beta 3 but have not played with it since I cannot get my Classic connected anyway via USB. There are still some Voiceover issues that will leave you wanting to throw heavy objects at the screen. Until they fix it I am doing my edits in windows and only using the beta to translate and emboss the final product. On Sep 6, 2016, at 3:25 PM, E.T. <ancient.ali...@icloud.com> wrote: If anyone is running the beta software, what embossers are working well on the Mac? My old Juliet has broken down which is not directly working under OS X anyway. So am exploring my options. I think it was said that the Index does its own translation. Does that mean using DBT with an Index is not doable? If so, what embossers will work? Thanks. From E.T.'s Keyboard...
