Hi Arnold, Yeah the batteriescan last for months, I think I only changed mine twice but I don’t use it all the time.
As for the touchpad 2 from apple, I’ve only charged it once since it came on the market and I purchased it. So that’s over 6 months. If not, upon startup, it should ask to pair. Yes, the button is a power button. Usually, I hold it in for about two seconds to power it up.
