Hi Rhonda, Consider that the Dock is just like a shortcut bar where you place shortcuts to apps and other items you want quick and easy access to. So, when you install an app for example, it will properly be placed in the Applications folder. As mentioned, in the Finder, after pressing cmd-shift-a to enter the Applications folder, you'll see many apps that reside on your Mac, but are not actually present on the Dock. If you wish any of those to be on the Dock, navigate to it then press cmd-ctrl,shift-t and a shortcut for that app will be placed on the Dock.
