The only thing that takes getting used to is clicking on the sizes or datacenter locations and not seeing much feedback although it works and sometimes the destroy button / rebuild option is problematic but that all can be done alternately so it’s not a problem.

DigitalOcean works very well with Voiceover. There are some minor issues but they are easily worked around. Sorry I don’t remember them at the moment, but I had no major problems. If you, or anyone, has used them before, do the web interface and other aspects work with VO/Safari? Any accessibility things I need to know about? It's an ongoing cost, but it's small, and I don't have to worry about firewalls, ports, or other security setup and concerns. You can do things to limit your exposure but the fact is if you have the server on the public internet and your personal data is in it then it’s exposed. You really should keep them separate. That being said if you want to do it, there’s a few ways to go. You’ll need some sort of server OS. Mac offers this but I might run a linux variant in a virtual machine and map the external to internal IP as you normally would. This lets you run in an isolated image making it more challenging (not impossible) for a hacker to get outside the VM. Personally, if I were going to do this project I’d go to www.digitalocean.com and rent a virtual server. They start as low as $5 per month and if things get really out of hand or compromised you just destroy the droplet (virtual machine) and build a new one. There’s lots of ways to do what you want to do though. Let me know if that helps or if you want more specifics answered. Hi all, I just got a domain name, to use for testing something at work with emails. I figured I may as well use it to host, well, whatever I want to. I have a Mac Mini with 8GB ram and an SSD, and I don't expect much traffic on this site at all. My questions, then: * Is this machine suited to the task, if I also want to use it for everyday things like email or Safari? It's my primary computer. * Should I use OS X Server, or would Nginx or Apache work just as well? I'm comfortable enough with both that not having a GUI for configuration doesn't bother me. * What security concerns should I know, given that this computer also holds my own files, keychain, and the like? Will server directives to restrict access be enough, or is it just a bad idea to run a public site from a personal computer? Thanks in advance for any information. I've done some web hosting before, and I know programming and servers, but I've never hosted my own site. This time, I own only the domain, no server space or anything else. I'd like to avoid paying for shared hosting if I can, since I don't expect this site to do a ton or attract many visitors. -- Have a great day, Alex Hall mehg...@icloud.com -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list.
