Hi Simon, You could test this scenario with your Express. Use the same instructions I suggested for the Extreme configuration. If it behaves properly, you'd then know if it would work with the Extreme.

Setting it to Bridge mode turns off all DHCP and NAT services so that those can be provided by your ISP. The setting for this is under the Network pane of the Airport Utility. The Router mode pop-up menu allows you to choose DHCP & NAT, DHCP Only or Off (Bridge Mode). Normally, just make sure you maintain the wired connection and give the Extreme the same SSID as your main router. This should create a Roaming kind of configuration where your devices just connect to the closest AP, as long as your ISP's router thing doesn't block this sort of set up. Later... Considerably better coverage, better processor for better performance and just an all around better unit. Of course, it's about twice the cost as the Express though, but I'd put it up against any $50 router anytime to have it out perform those units. The one drawback is that the Extreme cannot double as an AirPlay device like the Express does. You could, though, turn off the broadcast portion of the Express, connect it to the network and use the AirPlay feature without the slow-down in network performance. Later... Definitely clear the 100 megabit blockage and make that gigabit. Also, your router may not be able to forward at a gig. You may need to upgrade your router. To test this try sending a file from one directly wired computer to another. If it’s not the maximum throughput then it’s time to forklift the router and replace it with a new one. Not sure how it took this long, but glad it’s done. I’m not buying Google’s product; I like the Apple solution. On the other hand, maybe it took so long because a new one is due out soon after a long period of disinterest by Apple. Sometimes it happens like that. -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list.
