rss2email is written in Python and is relatively simple to install. In fact I run it on Debian Linux where my mail system is, but it runs under OS X just fine if you specify SMTP credentials. Follow the instructions at: http://www.allthingsrss.com/rss2email/getting-started-with-rss2email/
I imagine that if you know how to use MacPorts and/or Homebrew then you can probably figure it out.
