In answer to your question of whether you can use a new-generation Victor 
Reader Stream using OS X, I do this all the time.  Either in USB mass storage 
mode or using an internal or external Mac card reader, you manage the storage 
just as you would on Windows, as described in the manual, but without the use 
of the software Humanware provides.  You simply perform standard Finder 
operations to copy files onto the card on Stream, and this works just fine.

The only major exception to the rule that you not need Windows is Audible.  If 
you want that, you must use Windows to obtain your activation file.  But once 
you have that, you can keep a copy of it safe, and go back to using OS X to 
copy Audible books onto the card.
