Hi Krister, ABBYY FineReader Express Edition for the Mac is $79.99 for the downloadable edition. I'd say that the major limitation that list members reported on was the need for driver support on the Intel platform. Since many list members have older scanners without native drivers for Intel, this can be a problem, and is the reason for Anne's reference to VueScan.
There does not appear to be a trial version of the Mac software available, though there is a 30-day money-back arrangement (still, a pain to have to go through). They've released a version for Snow Leopard.
