Very sad indeed.

Adium was my main communication method whilst using Facebook on the Mac.

Might just have to link Facebook with Skype.

Here’s the blog post I mentioned

And the relevant part of the text, "Facebook Chat will also stop working <https://developers.facebook.com/docs/apps/changelog> on April 30. We have no plans to continue support.” I guess the reason your adium is still working is that you still have a valid authorisation token. Facebook requires apps to authorise again every month or so, which is probably a security feature. Enjoy your adium while it lasts. :D

I can use Adium just fine here.

Would also be interested to read the blog post that claims support for the above app is going away.

When it comes to the Facebook app for the iPhone however they’ve dropped the ball.

Safari with the new key combinations is the solution for me now until someone at Facebook accessibility fixes the iOS app.

If anyone can suggest a truly more elegant way of accessing Facebook on the Mac I’d love to hear about it.

Kind regards,

Hmmm. If that's the case, I may just have to bite the bullet and link Facebook with Skype or just not use it at all if this is the direction that Facebook's going. Although it's weird because my friend Zack says his Adium still works. I'd like to see that blog you were talking about. Could you point me to it?

The reason apps are stopping to work is caused by Facebook API changes that happened on APRIL 30th. Your existing session had expired, so this is why things don’t work. The changes are quite big, FB are really trying to push their own apps like Messenger. This can be gotten around, Miranda NG on Windows still works. On the Mac side, my Adium also died yesterday, and according to their blog they’re sadly not planning to fix this. You should try and contact trillion support and ask what’s their take on this because right now I’m using my phone for notifications, then the mobile site to reply to people which is a bit clunky.

Hi Traci. Can you use Facebook Chat with MenuTab Pro or is it only for checking news feeds for Facebook? I tried Trillian again and it gave me the same message that it needs permission.

No problems with MenuTab for Facebook — so far. ;)

Hey all. Subject line says it all. Let me start from the beginning though. As you all know, I use an app called Trillian for Facebook. Somewhere around midnight, I get a message saying that Trillian needs permission to connect to Facebook. So I removed it and added the account again which usually fixes the problem but not this time though. It still said it needed permission. I tried again just now and I got the same result. Also, a friend of mine is having the same problem but he's using Adium on the Mac and the SamNet Socializer on Windows. So I have a couple questions. First, is anyone else on this list experiencing this issue? Secondly, has Facebook stopped supporting third party apps? If so, you'd think they would give us warning before terminating such support. Third, (I lied 'cause I said that I had a couple,) is support for third party apps broken because of something Facebook did? I know I could link my Facebook to Skype but I'd rather keep those two separate because my family doesn't like my, ahem, questionable language and I do swear a lot, lol. Thanks.
