Part of setting up VMWare Fusion is installing the VMWare tools which
adds drivers that makes the virtual machine work better with the Mac's
hardware. While I haven't tried it I would assume that the McAfee
version of the Fusion update include installing McAfee on the Windows
side along with the usual VMWare tools. So this is not a Mac anti-virus
although McAfee still makes one for OSX. I don't know if it's any good.
If you want to ask the general question about good anti-virus for the
Mac I'd start a new email chain since people who don't care about VMWare
are probably not reading this.

Updated McAfee VirusScan Plus to version 13.6, adding Windows 8.1 support. What
does this mean? Is there a McAfee for mac osx that also will scan in virtual

between osx and windows? Is McAfee equally slow as in the end of 90’s and start
of the year 2000 or so?
Is there a «best virus/malware scanner» that work both in osx and virtual
windows?
Take care

For those still on the 6.x version VMWare released an update on April 23. From
their web site:
Fixed a rare issue where a virtual machine could freeze when reading or writing
data to a shared folder.
A virtual machine connected to the network with NAT and running many concurrent
DNS requests could cause the virtual machine to crash. This issue has been
resolved.
Fixed a rare crash with virtual machines that use the "Share with my Mac"
network connection.
Fixed problems with symbolic links created in shared folders.
Fixed an issue where VMware Fusion running on Mac OS X 10.10 would not properly
handle changes to the system audio configuration.
Fixed an issue where on a Mac with a Retina display, the H2G file DnD is misread as a
"Dock Metro App to Screen" operation by Windows 8.1 RTM VM (9600).
In some three-monitor configurations, full screen mode would not work across
all the monitors. This issue has been resolved.
Fixed an issue where shared folders couldn't be enabled for RHEL 7.1 with
kernel 3.10.0-229.e17.x86_64.
Fixed an issue where the USB arbitrator could not be dismissed on a host
running MAC OS X Yosemite 10.10.3.
Updated McAfee VirusScan Plus to version 13.6, adding Windows 8.1 support.
Removed a black flicker when switching to a full screen virtual machine.
Fixed an issue where the HGFS client driver did not compile in Ubuntu 12.04
with kernel 3.2.0-77 and Debian 7.8 with kernel 3.2.0-4.
VMware Fusion 6.0.6 has been updated to OpenSSL library version openssl-1.0.1m.
This OpenSSL library version addresses several OpenSSL security issues
including CVE-2014-3571, CVE-2015-0206, CVE-2014-3569, CVE-2014-3572,
CVE-2015-0204, CVE-2015-0205, CVE-2014-8275, and CVE-2014-3570.
