Match wouldn’t benefit me, my collection is far too large. 1.5TB of music, and over 4TB of movies and TV shows.

The number of files tends to be as big of an issue as the size of the files. Because iTunes copies your media into the iTunes Media folder, moves it around accordingly depending on numerous factors, at the same time as adding and updating records in the database, it appears to take a considerable amount of time. I’ve noticed things being a little slower as well and believe that the database management seems to be taking more work during the import. Just a educated guess, not a known issue.. Some things that can be done to improve performance during these sorts of things is to: • import in smaller chunks if possible • Turn off processes like Time Machine backups or any other backup routines while the import is working. • use high-speed transfer devices like Thunderbolt or USB 3. • make sure that you have lots of working room on your system storage location. That is, whatever HD or SSD is running your OS, make sure that there is lots of room available for the computer to use for temporary access. HTH. Later... But when I go to import my personal media into iTunes 12, it’s moving way slower than iTunes 11 did. For example. I imported about 10 thousand songs, and it took over a day. That normally only took about 2 or 3 hours. Then I did my TV shows, that is about 1TB, that usually took about 4 to 5 hours, it took over a day. Anyone else notice iTunes 12 importing music slower than iTunes 11? Thanks. Frustrated with your Mac, I-device, or AppleTV? New user and want quick efficient answers?
