I did almost the equivalent with a previous laptop by installing Linux onto it using PXE to boot the installer directly over the network. It required some DHCP and TFTP configuration on the machine that hosted the installer, and the laptop vendor had to enable PXE in the BIOS for me, so it wasn't quite automatic.
