Hi,

Drives me nuts that Apple's solution for stuff they can't figure out is always
to wipe and reinstall. So much for just works. Smile.

If I were you, I would not use a time machine backup for your purpose. You have
a one time backup need, and a clone to another drive will be faster and more
easily useable for you in this one use case.

That said, I'd trouble shoot your printer problem by doing a clean install on
your external drive, and booting from that, seeing if it will correct your
problem before I'd mess around with your internal. I'd test the printer issue,
then use migration assistant to move your data from the internal to the
external, and again see if the printer problem comes back. If that solves your
problem, you have a workflow to correct it. If the printer problem comes back,
well, write back here and we'll try another step.

Good luck.
