Hello,
Ok so we figured out what the keys are in our case to get everything to
work. After installing the KeyRemapper app and the PcKeyboard hack app from
pqrs.org to make the caps lock key work as the insert key our numpad and
jaws/pc cursor/right/click/left click is the following. To do jaws cursor
it’s the fn key and the semicolon key. To do pc cursor is the fn key and
the slash key. To do rooting of jaws to pc is fn insert the semicolon key.
To do root pc to jaws is fn insert and the slash key. To left click is fn
0. To right click is fn p.
I hope this is clear enough and helps you find your keys as well since I
know how frustrating this can be to figure out at first, smile.
Take care,
Shannon Gerdts

I have just implemented this new routing of caps lock functionality, but I
am also unable to use the keys on the keyboard to perform typical jaws
functions. The insert or caps lock j key works to bring up the context
menu, but the other keys, such as the ;, ' and left and right [ ] only do
their regular functions.
Any suggestions? In my case, I am using VMware Fusion and a Windows XP
installation.
Thx,
Jeff

They should be the keys documented for the lap top layout. If none of them
are working then I'm wondering if something is wrong with the
configuration of your caps lock key. You should, for example, be able to
press caps lock J to get the JAWS menu. Is that one working just as a
test? If some are and some aren't, then we've got a Mac conflict going and
will have to think about how to replicate that.
I'm really sympathetic. I felt frustrated at every tun on this stuff until
I finally got it working pretty well. There are definitely flukes though.
it's not windows as we know it to be.

Hello,
Yeah the reason for the reauthorization of jaws every time you
reconfigure vm fusion is because it treats it as a new computer setup,
therefore needig to reauthorize it as you would on a computer you
reformat etc. What are you using for keys then to access the jaws
cursor, pc cursor, etc.? For some reason we're doing the keys that the
help file says under jaws for keyboard commands but it's just not working
and we're not sure why. My wife was able to remap the right click key to
be the key above tab so that she can at leas do that but she still can't
figure out how to get her jaws cursor to work, rooting of cursors, etc.

I'm not having any difficulty getting the screen reader keys using the
caps lock.
There are a lot of different ways people can be using the virtual
machine. Some of those might make a difference. I use mine as a single
window, not full screen or unity. I run into various key conflicts but
that's not one of them.
The bigger problem I've had with JAWS is that it reauthorizes itself
every time I reclaim space on the virtual drive. That's a common issue
and part of why I don't really recommend JAWS in the virtual machine, but
I did just test it and it works OK here using the caps lock fix you've
implemented. So I'm not sure what might be going on.

Hello,
So we tried your suggestions but this still doesn't seem to work to do
any of the commands I mentioned. We have it set to laptop layout for
the keyboard but when we do the keys jaws says is for jaws cursor, pc
cursor, etc. none of them seem to work. My wife has also tried turning
on and off the numpad commander to see if that made a difference and
still nothing is working.
If anyone has some experience with jaws on vm fusion that would be great
to tell us how we can fix this issue because right now we are getting to
our wits end trying to figure this out. My wife needs these things
obviously to work otherwise the windows experience isn't very doable to
say the least.

Change the keyboard layout in JAWS to lap top. Then you won't need the
numpad keys. I don't think there's really a practical way to get them
working.
In the lap top layout there are alternatives for all of those key
combinations and they will work with the remapped caps lock key.

Hello,
Ok so we were finally able to figure out how to get both of those
programs installed and got the caps lock key working for us as the
insert key. However, the podcast didn't mention exactly how to make
the numpad happen and when I try what it said on the page for using a
numpad by hitting the fn key and I for numpad 5 it doesn't seem to
work.
Has anyone actually figured this part out and can tell us what we're
doing wrong? I know we had to do things differently than the podcast
mentioned for remapping the voiceover keys to the caps lock since we
didn't end up having to go to system preferences but not sure why we
can't get the numpad part to work. Any help would be appreciated so
that we can possibly be able to do things like jaws cursor, pc cursor,
rooting of the cursors, left and right clicks on files, etc.

I did this last week. The KeyRing app is at the link you visited. I
believe there's a link called Other apps or something to that effect
and you'll find the PC Keyboard hack there. It's not on the same page
as it was when the podcast was developed and I had to look around for
it. After you have them, the podcast is very descriptive about what to
do. The hardest part was finding that second app but after that the
instructions will all work as advertised.
Oh, there was one other difference. If you're running Mavricks, you
are instructed to go to apple preferences and make some changes. The
newly installed apps didn't appear in my apple preferences, but
opening each of them revealed the same options he was describing and
everything worked as advertised.
I don't want to go through the tutorial again, he did a great job, but
after you find them, if there's something specific, I'm sure we can
help.
As I said, finding that second app isn't quite where he said now, but
it's still up there and you need them both for this to work.

Hello everyone,
So my wife and I are looking at this one podcast which I will provide
the link to which is reguarding remapping the voiceover keys to the
caps
lock key as well as creating a numpad around the I key etc. We're
wanting
to see if we can do this so that her vm fusion experience is possibly
a
little better being that she doesn't have a full keyboard to use
therefore
not being able to use things like the jaws cursor or mouse clicks with
jaws. The podcast we're looking at is the following:
http://www.applevis.com/podcast/episodes/new-updated-remapping-keys-your-macs-keyboard-enhance-voiceover-experience
On here it mentions to go to pqrs.org's website and download two apps
called keyRemap4MacBook and PcKeyboardHack. However the link it
provides to
do this doesn't seem to exist and when we go just to pqrs.org we can
only
seemingly find the first app. Also, when we go to that link the
installation instructions are pretty confusing so hoping someone can
give us
some advice on how to better understand what we need to do.
Thanks again for any help on this matter as usual. Also, if anyone
has
experience running vm fusion on their mac and has success please feel
free
and send me some e-mails directly maybe offlist as it seems as if we
have
some random issues that we're not quite sure how to resolve at the
moment.
