That is correct, if you want to change this behavior, go to system preferences, keyboard, and check the box that says use f1, f2, etc. as function keys or something to that affect. additionally, you can easily determine if you are running SL by pressing vo-m and choose "About this Mac" and if it says 10.6 then your running SL.
