Hi Barry and Others,

Remember, even if an rtf document opens in TextEdit, you can use print
to convert the rtf document into a PDF, then browse it in Preview.

1. Press Command-P to bring up the Printer dialog window
2. Press VO-I to use item chooser menu
3. Press "p d f" to find "PDF Menu button" in the menu and press enter
or VO-Space to select it
4. Press the button with VO-Space to bring up the PDF menu
5. Arrow down to "Save as PDF" and press enter or VO-Space to select it
6. In the dialog window, navigate to the name for the saved file in
the text field. Press right arrow to go to the end of the name then
press the delete key three times to remove the "rtf" extension. Press
"p d f" to substitute "pdf" as the extension. (This step is not
necessary, but I find it confusing to have my pdf files named with an
rtf extension.)
7. Navigate (VO-Right arrow) to the pop-up button for where to save
the file. VO-Space will let you choose the location from options
listed on the pop up menu, but if you want to save the file in a
specific folder, press Command-Shift-G ("Go to folder") and type in
the name of the folder, e.g.:
~/Documents
All the shortcuts (Command-Shift-H for home, Command-Shift-D for
Desktop, Command-Shift-A for Applications, Command-Shift-U for
Utilities, Command-Shift-C for your Computer, etc.) also work for
these dialog windows.
8. Press Enter, or navigate to the "Save" button and press it with VO-
Space to commit your changes.

This procedure to convert to a PDF works for other files and
applications. I'd still wait for Apple's Documentation, because this
won't create a PDF with Table of Contents that you can use for
navigation from the Preview sidebar.

Cheers,

Esther
