Thanks for the example, Julio. This shows me that you're trying to call the CAS on an equation array, which I don't think LyX handles well. Consider trying an inline math expression without the equals. Attached is a LyX file with examples that work and don't work for me with Maxima. Factoring works fine for me with Maxima (see the last example). You have to give the command "factor" and do not pass the equals sign (otherwise LyX gives this to Maxima and Maxima thinks it's part of the expression to evaluate). Scott
