I checked Miktex by compiling a hello world lex to pdf, and it indeed works fine so the problem is not Miktex broken installation.
OK, so LyX is to blame here. Could you please send me in a private mail the content of your windows environment variable named "PATH"? (You find it in the properties of "My computer" in the file explorer or in the registry under "HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Environment")
Does that installer have a facility so I can point it to my Miktex installation?
If you have MiKTeX installed - which is now the case for you, you can reinstall LyX using the standard installer. There you can specify the path to MiKTeX.
But before doing this I would like to find out why the normal way fails for you. regards Uwe
