However, from a cursory reading of that thread I understand that it should be really easy to hack in 'spreadtab' tables in LyX. I'm just not sure that LyX is flexible enough to provide this functionality to the users---table insertion---, in the same way as it allows to create custom insets/environments via modules/layouts.
