Uwe, the man who provides the alternative installers, is not available at the moment. LyX-2-0beta4 is no stable LyX release, it's a beta release, provided for testing and bug hunting. It's already quite stable and many people use it already for daily work, but the "average person" should rather stick with the stable version, that is LyX 1.6.9. Jürgen
