I have had my fair share of printing disasters. I have done several book
sized projects in InDesign and rather recently swithced to LyX. There are
always things that go wrong in every project. All in all I am amazed over
how good LyX is and I think I have found the software I have been looking
for. I guess that a pdf scare now and then is a reasonable price.

You would be surprised what sort of things can go wrong when printing.
In our office we got hit by several bugs including the "shifted by one
character point" bug and the "mirror image". Of course these will happen
when you have something urgent to print!
