All -

I find the pop-up windows for Insert-Citation and Insert-Cross-Reference quite
annoying. It is nice to have a list of choices, and to be able to use the
mouse to choose among them, but this should not be required. Most of the time
I already know what I want. It would be really nice if I could just type the
tex command \cite{E} or \ref{d} or \eqref{w}, or something similar.

Is there is already a way to do something similar? Embedding tex does not seem
a good alternative.

Currently it does not seem possible to make a shortcut for
Insert-Cross-Reference from within LyX. I am using a Mac, and made a menu
shortcut in OSX. This works fine, except that the first time I use I must open
it from the menu by hand. Is this an OSX flaw or a LyX flaw?

Thanks for any help,

Hal
