LaTeX puts big space between paragraphs rather than have a page end before the bottom. The more and bigger graphics (and probably formulas), the more inter- paragraph variations become. It's hard to defeat this LaTeX behavior without a lot of micromanaging. I've found you can change the pagecount by changing the margins just a little. If you want this to be a six page document, I'd widen and lengthen the margins just a smidgen.
