I do not quite understand what you want, but you can redefine the subexamples
environment. The original definiton is:
\newenvironment{subexample}{%
\begin{example}\begin{enumerate}[leftmargin=1.7em]
\renewcommand\theenumi{\alph{enumi}}
\renewcommand\labelenumi{(\theenumi)}
\renewcomman...@enumi{\theequation\,}}%
{\end{enumerate}\end{example}}
