I am encountering a strange problem:

I am trying to import a LaTex file but I cannot get lyx to properly import it,
because lyx2lyx (which I didn't know was used in this process) fails to
convert the .lyx file produced by latex2lyx

Here is what I did:

File>Import>Latex(plain)

Error message is:

[my file] is from a different version of LyX, but the lyx2lyx script failed to
convert it.

I thought the problem may be with the .tex file so:

1. I tried compiling from the command line--> everything is fine

2. I tried running tex2lyx from the command line --> ran flawlessly with no
errors

3. I opened the .lyx file in an editor and the preamble says:

LyX file created by tex2lyx 1.6.2
\lyxformat 247
\begin_document
\begin_header
\textclass book
\begin_preamble
%&LaTeX

Is that where the problem is? I am running Lyx 1.6.2, and the file it produces
have
\lyxformat 345

4. So I took a brute force approach: I changed the \lyxformat line to read
\lyxformat 345. Now the file opens in lyx, but I am a bit uncomfortable with
this solution, as I may have messed up other things.

So I am stumped. Can anyone help out?

Thanks in advance.

Stefano
