I also got the impression that compiling should not be that hard. I will
try this ... not sure when.

But that's just what I did in the end - I think. I used aptitude for
both LyX and Texmaker but still ended up with two texlives. Strange. Oh
well - just try again maybe. I think the set-up now is bound to lead to
complications as soon as I start installing fonts, packages, etc.
