I have used lyx 1.6.1 a bit now, and I think the grouping is an excellent contribution to the workflow for graphics. I hope that I now get how groups are supposed to work. _I_ think the problem grasping graphics groups are due to: 1. The gui works in another way than many lyx options. Take the 'local layout' option from the document options (In document class tab) as an example on how I would expect it to work. (A list of layouts-> add layout button-> new window to specify the new layout-> new layout added) 2. The seasoned LyX user is used to use the graphicsUI to control the graphics. While you still need to open the graphicsUI to add the file name, (and change settings) it is impossible from the graphicsUI to choose the group the graphic should belong to without (re)defining the group. 3. LyX has never been heavy on context menus. And I would not expect from using LyX that context menus change on the fly. However, when you learn that it does it works nicely. I might be wrong here. And I do subscribe to the belief that the coder should in the end decide how things should be implemented. However, maybe an more radical change could be a possibility to improve the work flow: Insert->graphics launches a new "graphics file selection" window where you can specify the graphics file and the group the graphics belong to. In addition two buttons: one open up the graphicsUI to change the settings for the group and the second add a new group. One problem with this approach is that it could lead to exceedingly many groups if you had many one off graphics. Thus it might be necessary to add a 'one off' group that did not act as a group :) to the default along with the default group. Ingar
