I'm curious why you feel plain LaTeX is preferable. I do all my
presentations in LyX/beamer. There are occasional instances where I
have to insert a little ERT, but overall LyX saves me a fair bit of work
(and is perhaps slightly easier on my limited supply of surviving memory
cells). The beamer user guide helps by including tips on how to do
things in LyX.
