The answer to all such questions is: It can be done if there is a LaTeX
package that provides this facility. You can search for such packages on
ctan.org. In this case, it appears that your dream has been realized in
the form of the endheads package, here:
http://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/endheads/
That package is fantastic. The latex world is like perpetual Christmas
morning!
There is a problem though. The endheads package works by looking
for "\endnote" codes but lyx does not supply these. For a while
I could not get endheads to work until I thought to export to
tex, replace all "\footnote" with "\endnote". [...]
I saw you found a solution otherwise. But there is other good news,
namely, that LyX 1.6.x will contain support for endnotes, even alongside
footnotes, if that is what you wish.
