Fernando, YES, THATS IT! ;-)) At least a part of it ;-) Thanks a lot, Fernando!
I will repeat your description under this new topic which makes it easy for other users who want to install dictionaries manually. > 1) Unistall the current Aspell > 2) Get the dictionary files of Aspell6 from the LyX wiki page > http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Aspell6 > Do not use the dictionaries from the GNU page. Yes, that is very important. I still do not know why. > 3) Before installing any dictionary, you must install first the > english dictionary. This will be automatically installed in: > Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Aspell\Dictionaries On my machine this is *not* the correct place for All Users. If you install it for a single user, lets say Peter Meier, the correct place will be Document and Settings\Peter Meier\Application Data\Aspell\Dictionaries indeed. Normally the names *Document and Settings* and *Application Data* is translated into the current language which succeeds with the German version e.g. To install the English dictionary first, although you want to work with German texts, is naturally of *essential* importance: without the English dictionary, the German wants to substitute *every* word. And this does not improve, if you install the English dict afterward. This is a very realistic sign: without English the German language cannot exist ;-). > 4) After this you can install any other dictionary, the problem is > that some of them may not install in the proper directory. If this > happens, you must manually move the files to the same directory: > Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Aspell\Dictionaries This does not succeed on my machine. It is still the wrong place. It does only succeed with a personal installation as I described before. > At least, this worked for me. Fernando Yes, and that is very good. Perhaps some readers wonder why I do not install the dicts with the installation manager by loading them from the net. I want to find out how to install on a computer which has not the possibility to get connected to the net. On a pupils laptop e.g. this is the regular situation. The reason why there are not any hints about the correct place for the dicts maybe the ridiculous habit (IMHO) of Windows to translate important directories into the current language. Even the use of *Documents and Settings* instead of *DocumentsAndSettings* shows, that Windows assumes that the user has the intelligence of a potatoe, which LyX does not ;-)).
