Hi all, If any of you are in Central Florida, this might interest you...
I'm giving a presentation on TeX, LaTeX and LyX at tomorrow night's GoLUG meeting. It's 7pm, 8/2/2007 at the Knowledge Shop at 1000 North Orlando Avenue (17-92) Suite C in Corporate Square in Winter Park. In other words, 17/92 and Lee Road. Here's a map: http://golug.a3b3.com/#location_knowledge_shop TeX is a low level, Turing complete programming language, developed by Donald Knuth for the purpose of typesetting, including typesetting of mathmatical equations, tables and images. It's pretty easy to learn, and you'll get a good start toward learning it at the presentation. LaTeX is essentially a framework or macro set for TeX. It's most often dealt with by finding pre-made packages to accomplish what you want. Examples will be given at the presentation. LyX is a graphical front end to LaTeX. Creation and modification of paragraph and character styles in LyX requires LaTeX knowledge, which in turn requires TeX knowledge. You'll see LyX in action, and you'll see some of my books created with LyX. If you need to write documents, and want those documents to be typeset uniformly and well, you should attend this presentation.
