Isn't it possible to use a special character at will? I have to transcribe a middlehighgerman text, where the writer uses the 'long s' very often and free from any rules (he uses the 'long s' at the start). > I have not checked but I guess that a comprehensive font > like lmodern has the long s glyph. It is not very easy to install new fonts on LaTeX. Can you give me a tipp, where I can find a how-to for installing fonts into latex? I found some per google, but these are, well, confusing.... > If you just want one or two long s in your text, you could use the tipa > package to get the phonetical alphabet. If it were just one or two, I could do it that way, but as said before, it's a huge ammount of 'long s' in the text. Therefore I would like to have a good typesetting too. Anyway, many thanks for the fast reply. Have a good day, Sebastian
