Hi there,
I need to get two figures side by side in my document - currently the output
looks as follows -

I cannot seem to get two images side-by-side unless I revert to non-floating
figures and without their respective
"Figure captions".
Regards.
With a compromise on the caption you could stick two figures side by
side into one float re enclosure
You can stick two figures side by side in a single float, and still
get proper captions:
1. Insert the float
2. In the float, insert two minipages side by side. They must
be 50% of column width or smaller, so they line up.
3. Put one figure in each minipage
4. Press enter after each figure, and change the paragraph
type of the blank line to 'caption'. Now each figure have a caption!
Referencing these captions works too, just put a label in each
as usual.
