OK, I undersrand I had to tune some preferences to cretae the file.
However, I don't really understand the header of the lyxrc.defaults file

Sorry to be unclear, to be more specific, configure log prints:

The former seems to refer to the unmodified dist. language.dat file, the latter
to the
customized language.dat file. LyX should inspect the customized file, i.e. the
result of
kpsewhich language.dat
/usr/local/TeX/texmf-var/tex/generic/config/language.dat
extract the babel line in the latex command header.

You're right, I just checked the first line of the latex command

As latex command runs pdfeTeXk since TL 2004, maybe the pdfeTeXk version could
be added to the
LaTeXConfig.lyx record file.

step 2: cp /usr/local/share/lyx-1.4.1/layouts/myclass.layout
/usr/local/share/lyx-1.4.2/layouts
step 3: lyx -x reconfigure, quit lyx window:
+checking for document class myclass [myclass]... yes
step 4: load documents template using myclass.cls, error message about layout
not found
step 5: lyx -x reconfigure, quit lyx window
step 6: load documents template using myclass.cls, all is right.
I'm going to replay this on the xforms installation to see if I can reproduce
it.
