What is the difference between "PDF (pdflatex)" and "LaTeX (pdflatex)"? The answer is simple: "PDF (pdflatex)" produces a .pdf file (with the help of pdflatex). "LaTeX (pdflatex)" produces a .tex file that is a suitable input for pdflatex.
